WHO WE ARE
TuscLands is a non-profit, volunteer service organization established in 2022 for the purpose of protecting our beautiful rural county’s farms and greenspace from urban sprawl. This is accomplished by first, continuously exploring federal, state and local funding opportunities and collaborations which are aligned with our mission, and secondly, enhancing and supporting existing private or public efforts currently focused on sustainable outdoor recreation and education projects.
We are unique in that there is currently no agency or organization with a mission to protect the rural character of our region.
MISSION
The mission of TuscLands is to promote and preserve Tuscarawas County farms and greenspace, for everyone. Forever.
VISION
The vision of TuscLands is to create a legacy of green spaces across Tuscarawas County that nurtures biodiversity, supports local agriculture, and fosters a resilient environment for all who call this place home.
OBJECTIVES
We will further this mission through a combination of projects and programming, funded by leveraging individual donations with local, state, and Federal grants.
Future potential projects include:
- tours and educational programming on local food systems and the importance and value of buying local educational programming on outdoors fish and game activities,
- bringing local residents closer to nature and its bounty, and
- development and implementation of bicycle and hiking trails to bring residents close to our natural amenities.
Long-term goals include:
- participating in the update to the Tuscarawas County Comprehensive Plan,
- assisting farmers wishing to preserve their agricultural land in perpetuity through various legal instruments, and
- building mutually-beneficial partnerships with local organizations like Rural Action and Starlight Enterprises.
