Potential TuscLands Projects

FISHING

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) offers great opportunities for funding local fishing and outdoors education classes.  Prior activities from our individual members include Passport to Fishing for local Latino and special needs communities.

TRAILS

While there has been steady progress on trails in Tuscarawas County; there are even more opportunities for others to link our local communities.

The Lock 17 Connector is in its early planning phases and would connect Gnadenhutten and Lock 17 in Clay Township, as well as providing fishing access.  The US Route 36 bridge already includes two-way traffic bike lanes that would be incorporated into the project.

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

According to the State of Ohio, “A Comprehensive Plan aligns available resources properly to meet and maintain the goals of a community for preserving current character and creating a future identity…  In the absence of a sound comprehensive plan, communities may lose their valued character and lose sight of their future goals through unplanned decision making.”

Unplanned development also threatens budgets, with constant construction of new amenities at the expense of maintaining existing assets, all while consuming irreplaceable farms and greenspace.

There is no existing Tuscarawas County Comprehensive Plan available on the County website.  Our communities should come together to lay out orderly development of our communities that are fiscally-responsible and protective of our open space. The last Comprehensive Plan, not adopted by the County, is from 2004.
